Ol′ga’s Revenges and Indo-European Types of Punishment

Inés García de la Puente, Universidad Complutense de Madrid

Under the year 945 the PVL relates the revenges that Igor′’s widow Ol′ga takes against the Derevlians, who have previously killed her husband and want to marry her to their prince. Ol′ga’s revenges conform a group of three killings plus a fourth one. In this paper I will analyze the first three revenges as a structural unit and compare it to the tripartite code of death that has been reconstructed for the Indo-Europeans.
